Decent Coffee

I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of that used motor oil they sell for 3-5 bucks a cup at the coffee shop. It's so bitter, they have to disuise it with flavored syrups and foamy milk. Now, I want my coffee to taste like coffee. Just pour it into the cup and hand it over. If I want the taste of vanilla, I'll have a bowl of ice cream.
The first thing you need to do to make yourself a good cup of coffee is to get rid of that auto-drip thing. Have you ever looked into the tank of that monster? It looks a little like the landscape of a distant planet or something. And it's gotta be a bacteria farm. No wonder it makes awful coffee!
Get yourself a good stovetop pot. I use a 2 quart size at home. Make sure it's CLEAN. Fill with water and place on the burner and bring the water to a full rolling boil. Meanwhile, measure 4 coffe scoops of good dark coffee grounds into a bowl. Add a fresh egg and stir the grounds and egg together until it's all in a lump. Separate it into two lumps. When the water is boiling real good, add the coffee and reduce the heat. Simmer for 10 minutes. Pour through a strainer because some of the grounds will escape from the lumps and try to get into your cup.
This method works as good over a campfire as it does on the stovetop.

I agree with you about all the flavored coffees. I drink a little cream in my coffee but that's it. I don't want any of the French Vanilla or any of that stuff. Then it doesn't taste like coffee.

I never heard of using an egg!!!

Come back any time, all my political posts are listed on the side. All are in response to a question one poster asked about not having time to learn about all the candidates and the party stances etc. I try to just give the facts unless I say it is my take so please feel free read and opine as far back as you'd like I reply to every comment in the comment box. Thanks again! Send some other folks regardless of their views.

Acccccccckkkkkkkkkk@ coffee of any flavor! No hot beverages here, a deep south cracker is hot enough already!

The reason Charbucks overroasts their coffee on purpose is so that after flooding it with flavors and creams and sweet spices, there is a modicum of coffee taste still in the cup. Their "regular" coffee is only awful. But their profit margin is astronomical. I shoulda thought of that.

Charbucks has done a remarkable job of marketing--making everyone feel like their product is the most important food item of the day. Incredibly, many of Charbucks' regular customers (daily) do not have a coffee pot at home. "...all we like sheep have gone astray..."

I'll drink some of your coffee at Blogstock 08 if you'll eat one of my Buckeyes. They're chocolate.

I tried this and I couldn't make lumps out of the coffee after I stirred in the egg. I used a coffee scoop and filled it full four times. And do you put the coffee directly into the water or do you put it into the top of the coffee pot in the container? My coffee has been tasing awful lately. I bet my tank needs to be cleaned out. I have a BUNN.

Clara - the coffe goes directly into the boiling water. I hope it works for you. I had a BUNN coffeemaker for a while. I thought it made better coffee than any of the other ones. It didn't last very long, tho. The water where I live is super hard and I think that shortened it's lifespan considerably.
I realized my mistake about the plant right after I hit the button to post my comment. Sorry. I'll bet you and Rachel got a laugh out of it!
